Summary:
Lily and Rosleen got taken to jail. T-ray came to get lily but left Rosleen behind. when they get home t-ray is hard on Lily but she stands up to him and she explains that he cant hurt her because her mother wont let him. T-ray thought it was funny because her mother is dead. Her father told her some hurtful things. When she went in her room, she noticed that the bee jar was empty so she thought she should be like the bees and run away. Lily returns to the jail to look for Rosleen but then she finds out that rosleen was taken to a hospital because the three man beat her up. Lily is on her way to Tiburon. Rosleen gets mad she doesnt want to be accused of be apart of her runaway so they split apart. Lily and Rosleen go into a corner store and Lily sees a black mary. The same picture that her mother had.
Lily then tells August that they ran away because her father died in a tractor accident. Rosleen gets upset with Lily because she is constistly lying and speaking for her. Lily feels bad because her skin tone is white. also she hears August talking about her skin tone. On the news they are talking about desegregation which scares Lily because of her race. Lily has to help August and Zach with the Farm since May had a Nervous break down and Rosleen helps may around with the house chores. August teaches Lily honey farming, and also learns about August fourth child Aprill and how she was suicidal and her condition.
Reactions:
I felt bad for Lily. Her father is a real Jerk. I thought he actually cared about her since he took he out of jail. Then I thought what about Rosleen? Why didnt he get her as well? I was actually happy but also scared when Lily ran away from home. I thought she was making a big mistake, and T-Ray was going to find her and punish her. Also I wondered why Rosleen was constantly upset with Lily. I think August is a really sweet and generous person, considering that she let Lily and Rosleen stay at the farm and also didnt kick them out due to her skin compliction.
